With a new director, a new calendar, and some great events planned, the MacArthur Program Board will provide students with laughter, fright, good food, and lots of fun this semester.
Always successful, the semi-annual Disney trip took place on Saturday, September 13. Students arrived at the bus loop at 8 a.m. for the three-hour trip to Orlando. They had their choice to spend the day at one of four Disney parks including Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, or MGM.
On Monday, September 15, the MacArthur Campus Senate approved sophomore Shari Jesteadt for the Program Board Director position. MacArthur Campus Governor Noemi Coltea had been the acting director for most of the summer. Jesteadt, who had been a coordinator, has many ideas for the agency and looks forward to her new job.
“I’m very excited to work with the Program Board and I look forward to talking to students and getting their feedback,” Jesteadt says. “I’m completely open to suggestions that they may have.”
The agency is in the midst of planning stages of what will ultimately become a feedback committee. The committee will be composed of eight students, some from the Honors College and some from the commuter student population. Responsibilities of committee members will include writing reviews, attending programs, and seeing both the planning stages and final products of each program.
Events for this semester include a comedy night, with comedians Mike Burton and Kiwi Rogers, who will perform a one-hour show in the MAC Auditorium on Thursday, October 9th at 8: p.m.
Homecoming will be held on the Multipurpose Field on Tuesday, October 28th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Activities will include simulated bungee jumping, sumo wrestling, Extreme Air simulated skydiving, and other promotions, such as keychain photos. There will also be a DJ.
The Annual Haunted Hall Halloween Celebration will be held on Halloween in Residence Hall 1. At this event, three floors are shrouded in darkness and fright as Honors College students go all out to present their scariest to the community. Hibiscus House children will be given a tour of the Hall with volunteers from the Honors College, and will trick-or-treat in Residence Hall 2.
The Culinary Journey, a new event, will be held on Wednesday, November 12th from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. in the MLC atrium. The event, still in the planning stages, will feature international food catered from area restaurants. The Program Board is open to food and restaurant suggestions, so contact them if you have ideas or requests.
