FAU run offense vs. UCF run defenseThe Owls ran for only 42 yards against Middle Tennessee State so it looks like their run woes may not be solved yet. On the other side UCF allowed 152 yards rushing from the 10th ranked team in the country. Hopefully FAU had success running against Valdosta State because they may not get far vs. UCFEdge: UCF
FAU pass offense vs. UCF pass defenseJared Allen passed for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions against MTSU. Roosevelt Bynes showed he has play-making ability and the offense became a quick strike threat in week one. This aspect could remain solid as UCF allowed 380 passing yards from a running team in its first game. If the offensive line can protect Allen, FAU could light up the Orlando sky.Edge:FAU
UCF run offense vs. FAU run defenseFAU allowed 183 yards rushing in the first game, but the defense held MTSU on a goal line stand in the third quarter. If FAU can cause some turnovers then this game will be close. UCF likes to throw but if their running game works, FAU’s defense will be in for a long game as they will be on the field for a long time.Edge: UCF
UCF pass offense vs. FAU pass defenseRyan Schneider is arguably the best quarterback in Florida. In game one Schneider threw for three touchdowns and 203 yards. The Owls defense held MTSU’s five wide receiver set to only 160 yards in game one. The factor to decide the game will be FAU’s ability to slow down Schneider and cause turnovers. UCF’s receivers fumbled twice against Virginia Tech.Edge: UCF
Special teamsBrittany Tellis had a questionable first game fumbling two punts. The Owls need to control field position with the kicking game. Big returns will ignite the Owls offense and quiet the UCF crowd.Edge: FAU
IntangiblesUCF will have two weeks to prepare for this game after losing 49-28 to Virginia Tech while FAU will be coming off their second tough game of the season. If the Owls beat Valdosta state, they will have the best start to a season in their short history. A 2-0 record will give FAU the confidence they need to stay on this game. A night game in the Citrus Bowl heavily favors the nights and the time off will give them the biggest edge.
UP-staff predictionsFAU surprised everyone with their win over Middle Tennessee State, but while I now think they can beat anyone I still think UCF will be too strong for the Owls. FAU will compete as their defense will keep this game close and it will be even closer if Allen can connect with Bynes for some fireworks. Pay close attention because UCF is where FAU wants to be so they will be following UCF’s lead in the near future.UCF 31 FAU 17
