Reginald Garcon, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, has announced that he is leaving.
The FAU graduate acts as Adviser to Student Government, and has worked very closely with students in his time as Assistant Dean. Garcon has worked at FAU for six years, starting out as a Coordinator for the Office of Student Orientation.
“Reggie is definitely a great individual and he will be sorely missed by Student Government,” says Boca Campus Governor Michael Moore. “I hope that his future endeavors are fruitful.”
While the Office of Student Affairs has not yet found a replacement, it seems that Garcon’s successor will have a lot to live up to.
“I think Reginald Garcon is wonderful, creative, generous and kind,” says Heide Gorman, SG’s Senior Office Assistant. “He is going to be very much missed by the staff and students of Florida Atlantic University.”
Those who have worked closely with Garcon are grateful for his guidance and dedication in working with SG and its agencies.
“Reggie has been like a mentor to me,” says Student Body President Ancel Pratt. “He has helped me learn how to be a leader, and I will miss that very much.”
“He has taught me so much about my job,” says Owl Radio Adviser Nick Jennings. “I really attribute much of the success that the radio station has had from his willingness to help and guide the station.”
Garcon is moving on to Mountain State University, a private institution in Beckley, West Virginia. His new position is Dean of Students and Campus Life. Garcon believes that working at FAU was a great learning experience.
“My experiences here have propelled me so that I can move up to this new, exciting opportunity in West Virginia,” says Garcon.
While Garcon will be missed, those who have grown to know him are pleased to see his success.
“I am very happy for him; he is going on to a fantastic opportunity,” says Jennings. “It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.”
A farewell party is scheduled for July 31st at 11am in the Live Oak Pavilion.
