Core of the staff1. The ace of the FAU baseball team’s pitching staff, Danny Core, is entirely deserving of that title. In 33 innings he’s allowed only five earned runs on 18 hits, he has 42 strikeouts and has only walked four batters. If he keeps pitching like that, his 1.36 era will fall quicker than a skydiver from an airplane.
Meaningless stats2. If you go on the FAU sports website, you can see the baseball team’s home record, away record, record in day games, record versus right-handed pitchers, etc. What’s next: their record while leading by five after six innings, when the temperature is above or below 80 degrees, and the women’s basketball team is playing the next day.
A lot of offense3. The baseball team has scored 87 more runs than their opponents this year. With numbers like that, they almost don’t have to play defense.
Why keep that stat?4. Why does the baseball team keep stats for the number of times a player has grounded into a double play? They must’ve felt bad when they did it. Why do they need a reminder?
Record breaker5. FAU pitcher Danny Core broke the school record for career wins with 23 on Feb. 28. He could finish his career with well over 30 wins if he keeps pitching the way he’s been this year.
