Florida Atlantic University announced on January 16 a $500,000 gift to establish The Center for the Study of Neurological Disabilities, a new state-of-the-art resource center on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.
Shawn Friedkin, president of Stand Among Friends, an organization dedicated to support research, education, and advocacy of neurological related disabilities, presented the gift to FAU.
The Center will be housed in a planned $16 million College of Nursing building funded through a donation from Boca Raton philanthropist Christine E. Lynn. Its mission will be to improve the day-to-day lives of people living with neurological disabilities, while serving as a resource for the latest information on neurological issues for students, researchers, and those living with or caring for someone with neurological disabilities. In addition, the Center will seek to support multi-disciplinary research aimed at better understanding the challenges faced by people with neurological disabilities and will provide a coordinated response to legislative and government initiatives that impact the lives of those with neurological disabilities.
