BaseballFeb. 12 – FIU @ FAU
Clark’s pick: FAU will get most of their runs early, and get a solid effort from their bullpen. FIU has a lot of returning players, and too much talent for FAU to slow them down completely. The Golden Panthers will scatter five or six runs over the course of the game. FAU 9-6
Corey’s pick:Last year the Owls split with FIU, this year I do not see FIU being so lucky. Ranked 24 in the nation the Owls are trying to prove something and they will use FIU as an example for other teams in the state. With back-to-back series against Bethune the Owls will be ready to meet another team and are just looking to avoid the big inning. If last year is any indication (FAU with an 8 run inning and FIU with a 5 run inning) a big inning will decide the game. I have FAU 13-4 in the first match up this year.
Koretzky’s pick:Of all the sports match-ups FAU has had and will face this school year – from football to tennis – this is one of the best. FAU ended last season 46-21 and ranked 19 in the nation. FIU finished 41-20 and went to a school-record sixth consecutive NCAA Regional. While FAU loses offensive power with L.J. Biernhaum going pro, FIU returns eight pitchers. FAU will prevail, but expect a low-scoring victory. Say, 3-2.
Rick’s pick:FAU has a strong team that is hungry to return to the NCAA’s. Look for Coach Cooney to pull out all the stops, as FAU edges their South Florida rival in an eighth inning rally. FAU will win 5-2
