BROWARD CAMPUSES (SEA TECH, COMMERCIAL, DAVIE)


Counseling services — Psychological counseling services are provided at no charge to the students attending the Broward campuses. The professionally trained staff seeks to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns and problems. Students receive help dealing with issues such as test anxiety, stress, procrastination, poor assertiveness, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, childhood sexual abuse, and sexual assault. Couple and family counseling is also available at no charge as long as an enrolled FAU student is an active participant in the sessions. Group counseling and psychological testing services are also provided when appropriate. Counseling at the center is held in strict confidence in keeping with accepted professional practices and Florida statutes. Appointments (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some evening hours also available) may be made in person at the Counseling Center located in Modular 38-I on the Davie campus or by calling 954/236-1216.

Wellness Center — FAU’s Student Wellness Center, located on the Davie campus between the Liberal Arts Building and Library, is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center’s goal is to provide highly specialized exercise programs for all members. Membership is free to all students.

BOCA RATON CAMPUS


Career Prep Week — The Career Development Center will be hosting a Career Prep Week from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from January 21 to 31. Here, students can participate in resume critiques, practice interviews, and attend a seminar on networking at the job fair. These events will be held at the Career Development Center, located in the Student Services Building, Room 222. Art Exhibit — Lucy Orta, a Paris-based artist born in England, will be exhibiting her art in the Schmidt Center Gallery until January 18. Orta’s works are combinations of sculpture, fashion design, and architecture. For more information and exhibit hours, call the Gallery at 561/297-2966.

Friday, January 17

Senior Place will be held between 12 to 4 p.m. in the Social Science Bldg. 111. Suzanne Jacobson, a professional photographer living in Boca, and a senior herself, is presenting her photo exhibit entitled . Senior Place is a program in its ninth year that is sponsored by the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, focusing on wellness and healthy living. The sessions of Senior Place are scheduled on the third Friday of each month, from October to April, from 12-4, with special presentations from 1-3 p.m. Blood pressure screenings and medication counseling are available from the College of Nursing faculty. College of Nursing faculty and nursing students are available from 12-1 to take blood pressures, counsel about medications and mental health and address other concerns participants may have. Free coffee and tea is available; bring a snack or your lunch. Parking hangtags are available. Water Polo — The FAU men’s water polo club meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 p.m. at the FAU pool. Newcomers or experienced players are constantly being sought. Para Soccer Club — The Para Soccer Club of FAU meets every Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at the intramural/gym field. New members are constantly being sought, so if you like soccer you should stop by. For more information, email [email protected].
