Small Business Development Center offers workshops

The Florida Atlantic University Small Business Development Center, a unit of the College of Business, offers workshops for those interested in starting or developing small businesses. Classes will be held throughout October at the Broward County locations.

“Searching the Internet and Government Web Sites for Business Opportunities,” a free workshop that will teach participants how to locate various web sites and data bases used by government agencies to announce procurement opportunities, will be held on Tuesday, October 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Pompano Beach Library, 1213 E. Atlantic Blvd.

“Start Your own Business, Be Your own Boss,” which will highlight business planning, marketing, financing, licensing and more, will be held on Tuesday, October 8, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Room 404 at the Fort Lauderdale campus, 1515 West Commercial Blvd.

“The Buyer-Seller Dance: Selling Skills for the New Millennium,” is a free class that will cover topics such as the need for a new sales approach; overcoming the fear of prospecting; the salesperson/client relationship; knowing when to close the sale; and more. The class will be held on Tuesday, October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the eighth floor of the Fort Lauderdale City Hall, 100 N. Andrews Ave.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Learning Center Classroom of the Fort Lauderdale Office Depot store located at 6325 N. Andrews Ave., the following seminars will be held:

“How to Finance Your Small business” will be held on Tuesday, October 1, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and will be taught by SBDC certified business analyst, Martin Zients.

“Building Your Business Plan- Market Research” will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by SBDC volunteer business analyst, Martin Nebojsic.

“Get Some Press!” will be held on Tuesday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to noon and will be taught by SBDC certified business analyst, Phil Scruton.

“Building Your Business Plan- Sales & Marketing” will be held on Thursday, October 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by SBDC volunteer business analyst, Martin Nebojsic.

“Marketing Your Service Business” will be held on Tuesday, October 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by SBDC certified business analyst, Rafael Cruz.

“Building Your Business Plan- Operations & Management” will be held on Thursday, October 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by SBDC volunteer business analyst, Martin Nebojsic.

“Purchasing Strategies for the Small Business Owner” will be held on Tuesday, October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by FAU purchasing agent, John Camp.

“Building Your Business Plan- Financials & Exit Strategy” will be held on Thursday, October 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by SBDC volunteer business analyst, Martin Nebojsic.

“Preparing Your Business for Government Contracts- ISO Management Systems Requirements” will be held on Tuesday, October 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by program management specialist, Wilheilm Barb.
