Counseling services — Psychological counseling services are provided, at no charge, to the students attending the Broward campuses. The professionally trained staff seeks to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns and problems. Students receive help dealing with issues such as test anxiety, stress, procrastination, poor assertiveness, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, childhood sexual abuse, and sexual assault. Couples and family counseling are also available at no charge as long as an enrolled FAU student is an active participant in the sessions. Group counseling and psychological testing services are also provided when appropriate. Counseling at the center is held in strict confidence in keeping with accepted professional practice and Florida statutes. Appointments (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some evening hours also available) may be made in person at the Counseling Center located in Modular 38-I on the Davie campus or by calling 954/236-1216.

Wellness Center — FAU’s Student Wellness Center located on the Davie campus between the Liberal Arts Building and library is open Monday through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center’s goal is to provide highly specialized exercise programs for all members. Membership is free to all students.

Music — FAU’s Broward Campus will be holding a coffeehouse event with free breakfast. This event is sponsored by Owl Productions and the Broward Student Government and will be held at the Student Activity Center for free. At both the breakfast and evening events there will be complimentary refreshments and give-aways as part of the function. Art Exhibit — A democracy of photographs named /here is new york/ will be shown in honor of the occurrences of September 11, 2001 located at the Ritter Art Gallery through November 9.

Exhibit — A Fellowship Of Demons will be on exhibit until November 3, 2002 at the Jaffe Atrium Gallery 318. The Gallery is located in the third floor of the Wimberly Library, outside of room 318. For more information call 561/297-0226.

OASIS Computer Training — The Office of Admissions will provide training for the new OASIS computer system from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Friedberg Lifelong Learning Auditorium. This training is for the admission screens only. It is geared primarily to college advisors and others in the university population who need to view admissions data. No need to RSVP.

Stay afterwards to meet up with other Lambda members for an evening at our campus bar & grill, Wackadoo’s, to play pool, air hockey, pinball and more. Join us for free pizza & soda. Wackadoo’s is located near the Majestic Palm room. Continue past the Majestic Palm room until you get to the courtyard of FAU’s University Center. You will see the outside seating for Wackadoo’s.

Dive Club — The FAU Dive Club will be taking an open water boat trip. The open water boat dive will be a two-tank discounted boat trip to the Sea Emperor and United Caribbean. Among the things to be seen are stingrays, nurse sharks, 200+ lb. groupers, moray eels, and lots and lots of tropical fish on this dive every trip. This dive is open to all Open Water and above certified members who have completed all the necessary steps, including their checkout dive or refresher course. Psychology Lecture — Juliet Mitchell, Professor of Social Theory from the University of Cambridge will be giving a lecture entitled Sisters and Brothers at 1 p.m. in the Board of Trustees Room, which is in the third floor of the Administration Building. Professor Mitchell is one of the founding mothers of feminist theory and has lectured in all continents. She has also been a visiting professor in Yale, Cornell, and Harvard. This lecture discusses why paradigms do not consider sufficiently what Mitchell calls lateral relations. She argues that we cannot make headway understanding psychology, sexual relations or war if we continue to omit siblings. Stop by and hear what this distinguished professor has to offer.

Pre-Med/ Pre-Professional Workshop — So, you want to be a doctor? Learn the basic information you need if you plan on applying to medical school or other professional schools such as dental, pharmacy, etc. Also, learn about the pre-professional office at FAU, learn how to be a competitive applicant, get a better understanding of the MCAT and other admissions exams, and find out what classes you should be taking. Stop by the Biomedical Building, room 126. Workshop begins at 3:30 p.m. Come prepared to take notes and ask questions.
