As college students, keeping up with your classes can take precedence over taking care of yourself. Fortunately, FAU provides many services, paid for with student health fees ($5 per credit hour), to keep students healthy, both physically and mentally.
Let’s get physical – Exercise at FAU
Many students are unaware that they can work out on campus for free, instead of spending money on expensive gym memberships. The following is a list of free ways to get fit on the Boca campus.
The Cardio Theater in the FAU gym offers a variety of equipment including: five stationary bikes, two rowing machines, two elliptical machines and four Stairmasters. Be sure to bring your headphones so that you can plug in to one of four television sets.
The Field House weight room is located between the pool and the gym, and is equipped with both machine and free weights. The FAU basketball courts are open seven days per week and students can check out basketballs.
The 400-meter track is open to students who wish to walk, jog or run. Students are reminded that inline skates and bicycles are not allowed on the track.
There are two pools, one twenty-five meter and one fifty meter. For swim times, call 561/297-3790.
Wellness Center in Davie
FAU’s Student Wellness Center located on the Davie campus between the Liberal Arts Building and library is open Monday through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center’s goal is to provide highly specialized exercise programs for all members. Membership is free to all students.
Medical care for little or no money
Student Health Services are available to students on the Boca, Broward, and Jupiter campuses. These centers are paid for by student fees and provide the following:
Free condoms for students, as well as other small health items such as Band-Aids.
Free doctor visits for non-emergency health problems.
Physicals, prescriptions and dental services are available at reasonable prices, as well as gynecological visits and STD tests.
Laboratory tests needed to assist in diagnosis and follow-up are available at a discounted fee. X-rays and other sophisticated diagnostic testing are referred to community resources, where the student is responsible for payment for services. Tetanus, Hepatitis, Influenza, Measles, Mumps and Rubella immunizations are available at discounted fees for registered students. Tuberculosis (TB) testing is provided at the student’s request for a nominal fee.
