FAU EVENTS PREVIEW

The dog days of summer usually mean that things slow down at FAU. While these upcoming weeks aren’t exactly overloaded with things to do around here there are a few notable events to check out.

æ

FAU Chamber Soloists:

æ

For those of you who enjoy classical music FAU will be presenting “A Salute to Women Composers.” It will be taking place on June 1-2 at 2:00 p.m. The first show will be at FAU’s Broward campus at the Davie Recital Hall. The second day will be at the Boca campus in the Life Long Learning Center.

æ

Both shows are free to faculty, staff and students. For more information on these shows call 954-797-4800.

Comedy Club:

Wack-a-doos at the FAU Boca campus is presenting a comedy club showcase on Tuesday June 4 at 8:30pm.æ The comedians that will be performing Tuesday night are those who you might see at a comedy club like Bocanuts.

æ

Scheduled for the night is Rick Bronson. Bronson is a veteran of the College Comedy scene. In fact he’s been the Canadian College Comedian of the Year for the past four years now.

æ

It’s not quite clear who’s opening for him that night but it should still be a great show. The office of Student Development and Activities is putting on the show so if you want more information on the event, call them at 561-297-3735.

FAU Jazz Group Concert:

æ

FAU’s Jazz Group is putting on the last concert of this year’s annual promenade series on Sunday June 9 at 2 p.m. The free concert will be held at the Jupiter Auditorium on FAU’s John D. MacArthur campus.

æ

Dr Tim Walters’ FAU Jazz Group will be playing jazz favorites all afternoon. The Jupiter Auditorium only seats two hundred and fifty so if you want to see the show get there early.

æ

The concert is being presented by the Hibel Museum of Art in association with FAU’s Honor College. Following the concert there will be a modest reception in the campus’ new Hibel Museum of Art with light refreshments. At the reception it will be like a sneak preview into the new museum which has yet to be formally opened.

æ

FAU’s Jazz Group is quite popular in Palm Beach County. They have played all throughout the area including places like the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach and the Delray Beach Museumæ

æ

Carnivowl:

Also on Sunday June 9, FAU will be presenting “Carnivowl.” The free festivities start at 9 p.m. in the University Center at the Boca Campus.

æ

“Carnivowl” will feature a movie, an inflatable house, key chain keepers and food and drinks.æ

æ

Each “Carnivowl” is different but they always present a movie and serve food and drinks.

æ

In the past they’ve had: a bull riding machine, karaoke, dancing, barbecue, casino night and the list goes on. “Carnivowl” usually draws a decent crowd and people always end up having fun there.
