Meet Tamica: This JUCO transfer just exudes positivity. That’s why she was appointed captain this year. Tamica lived in a number of states growing up including Georgia, Florida, and New York. She chose to come to FAU because “I just loved the coaching staff.”
Tamica enjoys singing songs, and eating junk food with the team on road trips. Her best friend on the team? “All of them,” she says with a smile.
What they’re saying: “She gets in one on one situations offensively.” – Assistant Coach Shannon Litton on Tamica’s main strength.
“She’s…very nurturing for the younger players. She’s not critical at all of any of her teammates. She gets on them in a good way.” – Head Coach Chancellor Dugan on Tamica’s personality.
This year: The Lady Owls, as we go to press, are second in the A-Sun (9-4), due in large part to Tamica’s 16.9 ppg (2nd in the A-Sun) and 7.0 rpg (6th in the A-Sun). Apart from the impressive stats Tamica means so much more to this year’s team. “She has been a very good influence on our team, and has brought a lot of leadership,” says Coach Litton.
“Her level of intensity and competitiveness has raised the level of the team,” beams Coach Dugan about her prized transfer.
What now: The big question is can the Lady Owls go to the NCAA tournament this year? They just need to win the conference tournament, but that’s easier written than done.
Tamica has one more year at FAU, and with a fairly young squad this year look for her and her team to be right back at the top of the conference next season.
