Beware of fau.edu support scam email

Someone has sent a message, supposedly from FAU.EDU Support, with a subject line "MAIL SYSTEM UPGRADE (COMPLY)!!!!" asking for username and password. Delete the message. It is a scam -- trying to get usernames and passwords in an attempt to get to your personal information.

Neither FAU/IRM nor any other legitimate entity would ask for this information via an e-mail. IRM does account audits yearly, but those audits ask only if you still need the account and do NOT ask for the password. Never provide your username and password to anyone, especially via e-mail.

This kind of e-mail is called phishing and is a way for people to steal your identity. For more information on phishing and keeping your personal information secure, go to the IRM Network and Security site (http://www.fau.edu/irm/network) and the IRM News security edition (http://www.fau.edu/irm/about/irm_news/irmnews_0601.pdf).

This message has been sent on behalf of IRM.
