After several years on FAU’s Boca campus, the BB&T branch located next to the Breezeway will be closing during October 2017.

In an email sent to faculty and students, the university said that its current banking partner no longer wants to continue its services on campus. The branch will close its doors at 2 p.m. on Oct. 27.

“Account holders linked to FAU will receive a letter from BB&T referencing the closing and options for obtaining services at alternate locations,” the email said.

David White, BB&T’s vice president for corporate communications, said the bank tracks the performance and foot traffic of their branches to make sure they are meeting customers’ demands. White said this is done with all locations and FAU was not targeted specifically.

“For several years, BB&T has reviewed the business strength of our financial center on the campus of Florida Atlantic University,” White wrote in an email. “Based on many factors, including client usage patterns, the decision was made to close the branch.”

Currently, the school is going through a bid process to find a replacement branch, which the school said in its email would be done by the fall semester. The email also states that there will be a new bank by “spring 2018 or sooner.”

The University Press reached out to FAU Media Relations for comment on the change in banks, but has not received a response as of publication time.
