Florida Atlantic baseball lost its first Sunday game of the season, but not before extending its winning streak to five games with wins over the University of Toledo on Friday and Saturday.

The Owls (10-5-1) trailed in each of the first two games before coming back to win. On Friday, the Rockets (2-14) scored two early runs off junior Alex House, but the Owls came back with three runs over the fourth and fifth inning and a seven-run eighth inning to win 10-3.

On Saturday, the Owls scored eight runs in the seventh inning to overcome a six-run deficit and win 11-8. Freshman Aldrich DeJongh hit a grand slam — the first home run of his collegiate career — to tie the game at eight in the seventh.

The victory marked the team’s fifth straight win and fifth straight game scoring at least 10 runs.

FAU’s offensive output slowed down in the third game as the team suffered its first Sunday loss of the season, 6-4.

The Owls entered the weekend leading the conference in home runs, and they added four more this week.

Senior Tyler Frank only recorded one hit in five Friday at-bats, but he made it count and hit a two-out grand slam in the team’s seven-run inning. He now has five home runs in 74 at-bats after hitting one in 137 at-bats a season ago.

Freshman Gary Mattis hit a two-run home run earlier in the inning to extend the Owls lead to 6-3.

Junior David Miranda and DeJongh teamed up for two home runs on Saturday.

The Owls will host Rutgers University on Tuesday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. before opening up conference play against Middle Tennessee next weekend.
