Florida Atlantic women’s basketball was unable to contain the University of Texas-San Antonio’s two leading scorers, resulting in a 97-66 loss on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.

Senior Tesha Smith and junior Loryn Goodwin combined for 63 points, and together made more shots from the field (27) than the entire Owls roster (24). Smith finished with a career-high 41 points.

Freshman Katelyn O’Reilly led FAU (4-22, 0-16 Conference USA) with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

The Owls shot 40 percent from the field for the game, including 8-for-27 from beyond the three-point arc. On the other end, FAU allowed the Roadrunners to shoot 55 percent from the floor, and was outscored 60-24 in the paint.

With 4:59 left in the first quarter, the Owls trailed the Roadrunners 11-8, however UTSA closed the quarter on an 18-5 run, and never surrendered the lead after.

Smith alone outscored the Owls 19-13 in the period, making seven of her nine field goal attempts.

A Raven Doyle 3-pointer brought FAU within three with 6:02 left in the second quarter, but the Roadrunners closed the quarter on a 16-5 run and took a 53-32 lead into the half.

The Owls were never able to make a run in the second half, shooting 44 percent from the field and allowing UTSA to shoot 54 percent from the field.

The loss means the Owls will finish this season winless in road games for only the second time in program history. The loss was also their 13th on the road, which ties the record for most road losses in a season.

FAU will return home to face the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. inside FAU Arena.
