Florida Atlantic men’s soccer snapped its three-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Stetson University.

The Owls (2-5-1) scored more goals in the game’s first 16 minutes than they did in the previous three games (270 minutes) combined.

Senior forward Jason Fitzgerald helped contribute on both early goals.

In the 10th minute, his cross found the head of junior Dylan Huber, who volleyed the ball into the back on the net. Six minutes later, the senior stepped into the box for a penalty kick and doubled the Owls lead to two.

FAU’s defense limited any Stetson comeback attempt, holding the Hatters to just nine shots in the entire game. In comparison, FAU took 10 shots in the second half alone.

Stetson managed to sneak a goal by Owls senior goalie Phillip Hitpass in the 50th minute, but his offense responded in the 74th minute to stretch FAU’s lead back to two when junior midfielder Alvaro Campuzano scored his first goal of the season.

The Owls will look to build off their win on Saturday, Oct. 1, against the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Boca Raton. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
