Owls play to 1-1 tie in home opener Thursday night.

Men’s Soccer played the Jacksonville University Dolphins to a 1-1 tie Thursday night, after two periods of overtime could not separate the respective teams.

The start of the Owls’ home opener was delayed over two hours by lightning after the game began at 6 p.m.

In the first half, senior midfielder Ramon Whittaker scored the game’s opening goal, a cross from sophomore midfielder Aaron Laranetto in the 18th minute, giving FAU a 1-0 lead.

Jacksonville evened the score at one in the second half with a goal of their own. Martin Agredo took a penalty kick that beat Owls junior goalkeeper Josh Nolan to his left in the 51st minute, with what would end up being the last goal of the game.

Multiple cards were issued in the game, with Florida Atlantic’s Douglas Ludvik (78th minute) and Whittaker (110th minute) receiving yellow cards. Dolphins forward Alvaro Alvarez (79th minute) also received a yellow.

The Owls will play at home again on Sunday versus Fairfield University at 2 p.m.
