FAU Baseball blown out on Sunday, fails to sweep Charlotte series

This season has not been kind to the men of FAU Baseball. Sitting at 17-15 going into this weekend, the Owls of FAU Baseball looked to begin the process of righting the ship by triumphing in a series versus the Charlotte 49ers on April 11-13. The Owls won the first two games of the series, even shutting out their opponent on Saturday, before losing 11-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1: FAU wins, 3-2 Runs in the fifth and sixth innings tied the game at two and a walk-off single by Brendon Sanger secured a win for the home team. The hit was Sanger’s only of the game. Bo Logan picked up the win — the combined efforts of he and Austin Gomber resulted in no earned runs on the day.

Game 2: FAU wins, 8-0 Jeremy Strawn pitched the greatest game of his career, surrendering just three hits in a shutout. At the plate, the Owls provided Strawn with ample run support, scoring five runs in the first two innings. Five FAU players had two or more hits on the day.

Game 3: Charlotte wins, 11-1 Just as they seemed to be picking up a bit of momentum, FAU undermined some of its previous progress with a paltry showing on Sunday. It was pitcher Brock Hudgens from Charlotte who dominated this time around, surrendering just two hits in a strong eight innings. FAU pitcher Drew Jackson lost his first game of the season, behind a sputtering Owl offense that yielded just two hits.

From April 16-23, FAU will play two games versus the Miami Hurricanes and three versus their rival, Florida International University. They beat the UM Hurricanes 5-2 on Feb. 19.
