In January, freshman neuroscience major, Aime’ Laclaustra walked into Owl Radio’s office and noticed a lack of promotion for the station. Members of Owl Radio told her their production and promotions had “gone downhill.” She was determined to fix it so she came up with a plan.

“Flash mobs. The easiest thing that can attract people with music is dances. Choreographed, messy dances,” said Laclaustra. “It gets everyone hype. You don’t have to be a dancer, you just put yourself out there and that shows that you support unity for your organization or whatever you stand for.”

Laclaustra put together the flash mob in one week, with the help of freshman business management major, Andre Holmes. She taught him to ballroom dance and they choreographed the piece together.  They set the  dance to a remixed version of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” and after “a few mistakes and a couple of drops,” they were ready to recruit other members of Owl Radio for the routine.

The flash mob took place in the Breezeway at 1:30 p.m on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Station Manager Anastacia Edwards was excited to have one of her team members take an initiative and joined in on the dancing with about 10 other members of Owl Radio. There were even representatives from Owl TV present, sporting  red t-shirts with the Owl Radio logo, supporting their fellow university media outlet.

“You feel a little bit out there but at the same time it’s exciting, you’re sharing your energy with other people,” said Edwards.

“I broke out of my shell for once in my life. I felt amazing. It’s that confidence that everyone should have,” said Holmes. “I think Owl Radio is going to have a very bright future. This is only just the beginning, so tell your friends.”
