Students team up with biology professor to save habitat

The owl has always been an important part of the landscape of FAU. Students can be seen wearing shirts bearing the image of the bird as they walk through the halls and cheer for the mascot at football games. However, the owls that senior Dan Rowan is rooting for live in the nature preserve on the north side of the Boca campus.

Candace Brewer will possibly be making the most important move in her academic career on Wednesday, Feb. 24, but it won’t be happening in a classroom. In 2005, plans for Innovation Village were drawn up to add a sense of tradition to FAU. It will feature two upperclassmen apartments, a football stadium and Greek housing. On Dec. 14, 2009, land north of the Breezeway was cleared for the future construction of Innovation Village.

Starting this semester, students are only allowed to smoke in designated smoking areas on the Boca campus. But if students decide to break this new rule, nothing will happen to them.

While others awaited the Super Bowl kickoff, a team of students on the Jupiter campus spent Super Bowl morning playing soccer and shouting about their opponents in Spanish.
The game kicked off this year’s Fiesta Maya, a daylong festival held Feb. 7 that honors
traditional Mayan culture. The event — which featured a procession, food, music and dance — was coordinated by Honors College students and Jupiter’s Mayan immigrant community.
